TAMS / Java / Hades / applets (print version): contents | previous | nextMultiplexer and demultiplexer demonstration (4 bit)
DescriptionThis applet demonstrates the function of 2-bit and 4-bit
multiplexer and demultiplexer components.
The internal structure of these components will be shown
in the next applet(s).
Please play with the select input switches to study the behaviour
of the components.
A multiplexer circuit works similar to a standard multi-way switch.
It transmits the selected input directly to the single output.
A typical use is to select the new input value for a flipflop from
a set of several alternatives.
For demonstration purposes, the data inputs of the multiplexers
are not all connected to static input values,
but also to two clock generators with different clock periods.
This should allow you to directly 'see' which input signal is
transmitted by the multiplexer.
The demultiplexer performs the inverse function of the multiplexer.
It transmits the value on the single data input to the selected one
of its several outputs.
